UNHCR helps to save lives and build better futures for the millions of people forced to flee their homes.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency works to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, having fled violence, persecution or war at home.

Nigeria faces complex displacement situations driven by conflict, insecurity and other protection risks. The country is home to more than 3.7 million internally displaced people, over 140,000 refugees and asylum-seekers, and more than 24,000 refugee returnees.

Working under the leadership of the Government of Nigeria, UNHCR provides protection and emergency assistance, strengthens national systems, and supports durable solutions.
